September Promotion Ideas

Library Card Sign-Up Month

Thousands of libraries participate in this nationwide initiative, which encourages everyone, especially children, to get a library card (www.ala.org/librarycardsignup). Propel campaigns at local libraries with items like bookmarks, pencils and totes.

National Skin Care Awareness Month

Salons, spas, beauty brands and retailers are some clients that may be running promotions in connection with this month-long initiative aimed at getting people to take better care of their skin. Potential products include sunscreen, lip balm and hand/body lotion.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Pediatric cancer is the number one cause of death by disease in children. Help nonprofits, researchers and health systems battle children’s cancer by providing products for fundraisers. Think hats, tees and more.

Healthy Aging Month

Personal trainers, massage therapists, chiropractors, gyms, yoga studios and nutrition coaches can capitalize on this annual health observance, which promotes taking proactive steps to age healthily (www.healthyaging.net). Product ideas include sport bottles, exercise bands and pedometers.

National Assisted Living Week Sept. 9 – 15

This week, assisted living facilities host events that provide opportunities for people to share an enjoyable time with family members (www.nalw.org). Make the events fun for grandchildren by providing assisted living clients with kid-friendly giveaways, such as glowing bouncy balls.

National Tradesmen Day Sept. 15

Sponsored by Irwin Tools in conjunction with retailers and community groups, this day features recognition events and activities aimed at honoring and thanking the trade professionals that build America and keep it running (www.nationaltradesmenday.com). Partner with employers and have them give their hardworking crews thank-you gifts such as tactical knives, fishing bobbers and multi-tool items.

Oktoberfest Sept. 22-Oct. 7

The biggest beer festival in the world occurs in Munich, Germany, but local versions of the celebration are held across the globe, especially in the U.S. Find bars, breweries, German-American clubs and other entities that host Oktoberfest events. Then sell them event T-shirts, mugs, plastic steins, can coolers and dirndls/lederhosen (for servers).

International Coastal Clean-Up Sept. 15

Since 1985, nine million volunteers have collected 164 million pounds of trash from beaches – and below the water – in 152 locations throughout the world as part of this eco-minded initiative (www.oceanconservancy.org). Help organizers thank volunteers for their efforts with items like T-shirts, caps and sport bottles.
