June Promotion Ideas

National Great Outdoors Month

What began as one week in June 1998 has expanded to an entire month of events to
encourage people to enjoy the outdoors. Hosted by the American Recreation Coalition,
more than a million participants enjoyed events across the country last year, including
youth campouts at governors’ mansions and Capital Campouts at state parks. Consider
tents, flashlights, coolers and backpacks for nearby events.

National Adopt-a Shelter-Cat Month

Sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
(ASPCA), this month-long effort spotlights the organization’s mission to end euthanasia of
adoptable pets. Think T-shirts, cat-shaped stress relievers and branded collars for ASPCA events
and cat rescue organizations.

Fireworks Safety Months

Prevent Blindness, a volunteer eye health and safety organization, offers extensive information
and education on the dangers of amateur fireworks displays starting in June and running through
August, the time of year that hospitals see the most injuries due to fireworks and bottle rockets.
Community centers, libraries and parks are all ideal places for branded literature and signage
encouraging safe practices.

June 5
United Nations World Environment Day

Commemorating the establishment of the UN Environment Programme, this day has been
set aside to encourage people to protect the planet from strain on its natural systems.
Canada has been chosen as the host country for 2017 in an effort to raise
awareness of climate change. Pitch compostable wine glass tags for fundraisers, recyclable
tote bags for educational events and branded apparel constructed of polyester made
with recycled plastic bottles. unenvironment.org

June 24-30
Lightning Safety Awareness Week

Hosted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather
Service, this week-long initiative aims to raise awareness of the dangers of lightning. Branded
weather radios, safety cards and signage are all ideal products for community safety events at
municipal buildings, firehouses and pools. http://www.lightningsafetycouncil.org/LSC-LSAW.html

World Music Day

First established in 1982 as Fete de la Mustique, World Music Day encourages
musical groups to put on free outdoor concerts to celebrate the universal language of music. All musicians, from amateur to professional in any genre, can participate. Think earbuds, silicone bracelets and light-up concert sticks to give away at events. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/music-day/

June 22
Take Your Dog to Work Day

Since 1999, Pet Sitters International, an organization dedicated to educating
professional pet caretakers, has held this annual event on the Friday after Father’s Day.
The occasion encourages companies to host a visiting day for employees’ pooches.
Provide co-branded bowls, collars and dog-sized apparel for those businesses taking part.
